SUB-ZERO Receives ORFA Professional Development Partner Recognition
Recognized by ORFA as Meeting and or Exceeding Industry Vetted Best Practices for Ice Operations.
TORONTO, ON — Marmak is proud to announce that SUB-ZERO, its digital ice operations platform, has been formally reviewed by the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) and recognized as meeting—and or exceeding—ORFA's established best practices for ice operations. As a supplier of products and services, Marmak recognizes the importance of aligning tools with industry driven practices and techniques that have been vetted by practitioners. The ORFA/Marmak partnership is built on this philosophy. As a result of this practitioner review, SUB-ZERO has been granted recognition as an ORFA Professional Development Partner (PD Partner) and is authorized to display the ORFA Professional Development Partner designation.
The recognition represents an important milestone in the continued modernization of arena operations across the industry, providing facility operators and municipal organizations with added confidence that the platform has been independently evaluated against recognized industry practices. ORFA sanction is limited to historical best practices that have formed the basis of the industry leading Certified Ice Technician (CIT) professional accreditation. However, other modules in SUB-ZERO strive to adopt the same values and practical vetting practices developed by the ORFA.
SUB-ZERO was developed to help modernize facilities transition from traditional paper-based processes to a comprehensive digital ecosystem that improves operational consistency, documentation, accountability, analytics, internal compliance, equipment longevity, and decision-making. ORFA has long since stressed the importance of balancing qualified operators and advanced technological tools to meet today’s data driven work environments for both asset management and proof of due diligence in today’s liability accountability world.
From the beginning, our goal has never been simply to digitize paper forms—it has been to fundamentally improve the way ice facilities operate," said John Tarantino, Vice President of Marmak (SUB-ZERO). "Receiving recognition and support from ORFA and its members is incredibly meaningful because it validates the vision we've been building toward alongside facility operators for years. ORFA is one of the most respected voices in our industry, and having them independently evaluate our platform and recognize that it aligns with—and or exceeds—industry best practices provides tremendous confidence for both our team and the rinks we serve. We remain committed to continue to innovate and help move the ice arena industry forward.
The recognition of ORFA's Professional Development Partner logo to the SUB-ZERO platform is further acknowledgement of a collaboration news release from May 7, 2026.
SUB-ZERO and our collaboration with Marmak is an example of building strategic alliances that advance our core business and creates positive results," said John Milton, Chief Administrative Officer of the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA). "It was important for ORFA and our staff/practitioner team to review SUB-ZERO with an industry best practice lense. ORFA is proud to recognize SUB-ZERO as a Professional Development Partner after completing our review and confirming that the platform aligns with those expectations. We believe this type of evaluation and due diligence helps provide recreation professionals with additional confidence as they consider new operational technologies.
As digital solutions continue to enter the marketplace, recreation organizations are encouraged to evaluate each platform on its individual merits. Every facility has unique operational requirements, staffing models, and organizational objectives. Selecting technology should involve consideration of functionality, long-term sustainability, support, industry alignment, and overall operational value.
ORFA's review of SUB-ZERO provides organizations with the assurance that the platform has undergone an independent assessment against recognized industry best practices. While no single solution is intended to serve every organization in the same way, independent evaluation can help facility leaders make informed decisions and reduce uncertainty when adopting new operational technologies.
Marmak believes this recognition reflects a shared commitment between technology providers and industry leadership to raise standards, improve operational consistency, and support the continued advancement of arena management.
As SUB-ZERO continues to expand its capabilities through advanced analytics, predictive insights, connected hardware, mobile applications, and artificial intelligence, the company remains focused on delivering practical solutions that help operators spend less time on paperwork and more time creating exceptional ice conditions for their communities.
